Introduction
| The market for Java programmers is currently white-hot. Starting salaries and hourly rates for Java developers have never been higher, and show no signs of falling any time soon. While this is definitely a GOOD THING, it also means that many programmers who have written little more than the "Hello, World" applet are listing Java on their resumes. Partly in response to this, Sun has put together a series of certification tracks for Java developers. This talk will discuss the various levels of certification available, the amounts of time and money required to achieve them, and their ultimate value to you as a Java professional.

A bit about Ken
| After nearly a decade misspent doing scientific research on turbomachinery unsteady aerodynamics and aeroacoustics for United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, CT, over the past couple of years Ken Kousen has morphed into a Sun Certified Java Programmer for the Java 2 platform. This semester he will be completing an MS degree in Computer Science at Rensselaer at Hartford, which he can add to his existing MA and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University, and his BS degrees in both Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from M.I.T. He is also a Visiting Assistant Professor at Trinity College in Hartford, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Rensselaer at Hartford, both in the Engineering departments. Despite all this he's been known to perform as an operatic tenor of some small repute in the Hartford area, and has even produced a rash of short stories, ranging from the mediocre to the truly bad, except for what is arguably the Best Star Trek (Original Series) Parody Ever Written | ||||||||||||||||||||||
