Meeting Minutes
January 18 Standing room only at twice canceled Java SIG!
Yes, Java fans, despite both of the scheduled speakers canceling due to unforeseen circumstances, and despite conflicting cancellation notices, and despite arctic temperatures, we had our best turnout yet - about 33 people! The Pizza was hot and so was the conversation. In similar fashion to November's meeting, we decided to ask attendees to share briefly about their software background and why Java was of interest to them. Several folks came with no java experience but wanted to learn what all the java fuss was about. Several had experienced the long downloads of the latest and greatest JDK and Java API jars. Toward the end an interactive debate centered on the relevance of Java technology in a homogeneous Microsoft based LAN environment with existing skilled VB developers - reference to the VB SIG was provided :)

The group discussion wrapped up just after 8pm but about half of the attendees stretched their evenning further and heard David Ferrero of Zion Software, LLC give a whiteboard introduction and overview of the java.sql package comprising the Java JDBC.

Thank You
Tony Kerz

Greetings Java Fans,

Get psyched for the first Java SIG of the new millennium, that is unless you want to get technical and tell me that the new millennium doesn't start until 2001.

I think that the next 1000 years will be very important for Java and I expect to see some tremendous advances.

Hope to see you there,

Tony Kerz
