This Month's Highlights

This month we are please to welcome Clement Wong of Macromedia, formerly Allaire Software, formerly Live Software. He will be speaking to us on the JSP 1.1 Tag Extension mechanism.

Before Clement enlightens us, we will begin our Java 101 series with a presentation by Tom Fulton.

Tom will be talking about the following Patterns, with a focus on where they appear in the Java library, and of course with examples in Java:

  • Decorator
  • State
  • Observer
  • Singleton
Tom will also do an overview of the Design Patterns library, and other types of design patterns than the GoF.

Our Main Presentation will start right after the Java 101

Tag extensions introduced in the JavaServer Pages 1.1 specification have quickly become the trendiest component of the JSP specification.Tag extensions empower a developer using JSP technology with tremendous flexibility and new options in designing a Web application. Still, controversy has emerged over the scope of functionality that a tag extension should perform, as well as concern over its exact place within the JavaTM 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition application framework.

The speaker will briefly discuss the API of the JSP tag extensions and will focus on some tag design principles with respect to some popular web application frameworks.

Here is Clement's BIO:
