Salmon Open Framework for Internet Applications (SOFIA)

Summary
Thanks to Dan Dubinsky and Ken Hoffman of Salmon LLC for their presentation entitled "Java and Rich Clients for Data Processing Applications." It was an excellent survey of the different technologies available to developers of web applications. Some of the topics discussed including java webstart, SWT, Macromedia's Flash, Flex, XUL, etc. Salient points included that SWT is not suitable for applets given platform dependencies and that XForms is going to have a significant impact upon 80% of the existing frameworks.

Dan Dubinsky - Lead Architect, SOFIA Framework - has been with Salmon for 5 years as a consultant, application developer and a framework developer specializing in business applications with J2EE technologies. Dan's current assignment is as the Lead Architect for the SOFIA Framework.  In his current role Dan assumes the responsibilities of chief architect, evangelist and general answer grape for SOFIA, which is Salmon LLC Rapid Application Development Platform.
Before joining Salmon LLC Dan was with CompInfo Inc (a subsidiary of Hummingbird) specializing in applications for the legal industry.  Dan's roles included Chief Architect and Developer for Corporate LawPack for Windows, a PowerBuilder based client-server application and toolkit for legal departments. At its peak, Lawpack was used in about 200 of the fortune 500.
