Meeting Summary

Thanks to David Ferrero of Zion Software LLC for his presentation on instant messaging in the enterprise. He covered not only the different IM standards and core concepts but also the potential uses. Imagine a setup in which server availability is communicated to interested parties via IM. Other potential uses discussed were technical support, CRM, and inter-process communication. He wrapped up the presentation with an overview of Zion's software which abstracts all of the major instant messaging protocols (AIM, Yahoo, Jabber, MSN Messenger, etc) thereby allowing a developer to utilize IM without worrying what client an end-user is using. Zion's SDK can be downloaded for a 20 day evaluation.

Abstract

Instant Messaging is not a passing fad. Like it or not, IM has been embraced by hundreds of millions of users worldwide and every day, billions of IMs are exchanged both within and outside businesses. Businesses need to assess the extent of IM use within their company and develop a strategy to deal with IM - whether to block or embrace it. In this presentation, David Ferrero, Founder & CTO of Zion Software will give a high level overview of Instant Messaging, regulations governing IM, and the benefits that can be realized by companies who choose to embrace this real-time technology. Following the high level discussion, David will discuss and demonstrate Zion's JBuddy Developer Studio and how it can be leveraged enterprise developers to IM-enable applications within a business for real-time advantage..
